The "Đạo Học" Program Celebrating the 950th Anniversary of the Founding of Quốc Tử Giám (1076–2026)
On January 9, 2026, at the Special National Relic Site of Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám, the Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities organized a series of special cultural and educational activities, highlighted by a procession of 950 Hanoi students and the art performance program "Đạo Học." This was a series of special cultural and educational activities of profound significance, marking the 950th anniversary of the founding of Quốc Tử Giám (1076–2026) — Vietnam's first national academy — and also serving as a celebration to welcome the new year 2026.
The series of activities aimed to review and honor the core values of Vietnamese scholarly tradition, while contributing to awakening a sense of pride and awareness of preserving and promoting the tradition of eagerness for learning within the community, so that Đạo Học may continue to accompany the country's development in the new era.
Over the course of 950 years of formation and influence, Quốc Tử Giám has not only served as the nation's highest educational institution during the monarchical period, but has also stood as a symbol of an education built on the foundation of ethics, knowledge, and social responsibility. The "Đạo Học" program was organized as a continuation of that legacy, affirming the enduring values of Vietnamese education in the modern era — placing people at the center, knowledge as the foundation, and ethics as the root.
As early as 8 o'clock in the morning, a procession of 950 first- and second-grade students from primary schools in the Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám ward marched from the inner sanctuary of Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám to Hồ Văn.
That evening, through performing arts featuring the image of the traditional Confucian scholar, students, and artists, the "Đạo Học" program depicted the journey of Vietnamese scholarly tradition from the classical examination system to the spirit of learning in contemporary society.
Attending the program were: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bùi Hoài Sơn — Standing Member of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Society; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Đỗ Văn Trụ — President of the Vietnam Heritage Association; Dr. Nguyễn Viết Chức — Former Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Information, Former Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education; Dr. Lê Minh Lý — Member of the National Heritage Council, along with many other distinguished guests.
Through the program, the cultural values of Thăng Long – Hà Nội continue to resonate in today's life, affirming that Đạo Học belongs not only to the past but is a living source that nurtures the character, intellect, and aspirations for sustainable development of the nation.
